Writing

These past weeks we have been working on writing a non-fiction book about subjects we have learnt about I chose Uluru

Here is my writing:                                                                                                            _____________________________________________________

Uluru also called Ayers Rock is an important structure in Australia and has many stories around it. It is important to Anangu culture and is a massive rock mostly made out of weathered limestone. The caves at the foot of it are sacred to seven aboriginal peoples.

Location:

Uluru is located in Uluru-Kata-Tjuta National Park, in the middle of Australia on the edge of northern territory 335 km southwest from Alice Springs and is one of the largest rocks in the world. It is also one of the 7 wonders of the world.

History:

Archaeological findings to the east and west indicate that people settled into the area more than 10,000 years ago. Europeans arrived in the Australian West Desert in the 1870s. Uluru and Kata Tjuta were first mapped by Europeans in 1872. In different expeditions Ernest Giles and William Gosse were the first explorers to go near this sacred site. While exploring in 1872 Giles sighted Kata Tjuta from a place near Kings Canyon and called it Mount Olaga, while the next year Gosse observed Uluru and called it Ayers Rock after Sir Henry Ayers.

Geology:

Uluru is an inselberg meaning “Island Mountain.” An inselberg is an isolated hill or knob that rises abruptly and is surrounded by flat lowlands. Uluru is often referred to as a monolith but it is an ambiguous term so I will call it an inselberg.

Aboriginal:

As with a lot of places around Australia there are a lot of stories around Uluru, mostly from The Dreaming. According to the Anagu, the landowners of Uluru the word was once a featureless place. Nothing existed until the creator beings in the forms of people, animals and even plants travelled the land. Then in a process of creation and destruction they formed the landscape as we know it today.

Uluru is a fascinating rock and an important cultural icon to the aboriginal tribes of Australia.                                                                                                             _____________________________________________________

I enjoyed this task because I love writing.

Have you been to Uluru?

My Special Girls

Yesterday for R.E we were answering some questions about Mary and then we had to write about our special females in our life. Here is mine

Who was Mary?

She was a woman chosen by God to raise Jesus.

What is special about her?

She was a descendent of Eve and had never sinned.

Why is she important to us?

She raised Jesus our saviour and is an important symbol in the catholic church.

My Yr 6 Friends are important to me because they are so  nice and kind.

Who are your special females?

Anzac Letters

This week for persuasive writing we had to write a letter to an imaginary friend and persuade them not to go to war. This was a fun task but it was hard to persuade them to. Here is mine

Dear Edmund

It was great to hear from you,                                                                                        I don’t agree with you to go to war even though the media says it will be a great adventure I don’t trust those sneaky people. “Adventure” is just another word for sorrow.                                                                                                                 My brother wants to sign up and however hard I try he still wants to, he thinks I’m scared and jealous and selfish he may be annoying but he is still my brother.                                                                                                                          Also you have to kill others just like you. War is stupid, and down in the trenches it’s not a 5 star hotel there is disease and rats and you won’t get heaps of food only the scraps from god knows where, so I’m not going.

Sincerely Oliver

What do you think it would be like in war?

Tell me in the comments.

School Camp at Living Springs

On monday the Yr 6s and Yr 5s went to living springs for school camp.

Day 1:

First we packed and went in our car groups to governors bay. Next we had morning tea and walked around the coast to a farm and had a tour of the farm. After that we walked up a hill to the campsite. When we got there we had a look around and had afternoon tea and put up our tents. Then we had free time and dinner. Then we had the option to do a burma trail or stay and chill, I chose the burma trail it was really fun. When we got back we went to bed.

Day 2:

When I woke up I went outside to stargaze with my friends but we got caught and had to go back to bed. After that when we were allowed out of our tents I went to play soccer, then we got called in for breakfast. After that we went to a pool and played there, me and my friends played a game called electric piggy. When we got changed I was really hungry so we had morning tea. Next we had Archery first we had to shoot at targets then we had to try and get an arrow in a bucket but best of all we had an archery dodgeball game with music. Then we had lunch it was Nachos!! After that we had an initiative  challenge with lots of puzzles my favorite one was called River of Toxic Waste where you had to swing across a river with a rope but it had to start in the middle of the river, if you touched the platform your whole team had to start again. Then we had afternoon tea and did indoor rock climbing it was awesome. After that we went back to base and had free time until dinner. And then we went to sleep.

PS: My tent had a busted zipper so we had to move quickly to another one in the wind.

Last Day:

When I woke up I got dressed and went outside we were finally allowed to leave our tents so I went to play soccer and had breakfast (me and my friend Zara had a challenge to eat the most we ate 21 servings in total!!). Then we had to pack our daypack and duffel bag. after that we took down our tents and had morning tea. After that we had some team building trails that were like the intuitions. After that we had lunch. Then we went home!!

My favorite part was the archery and the intuitions.

Ash Wednesday ✝

Yesterday at NBC we celebrated Ash Wednesday and we also welcomed new families to our school. Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent it is also when we get ashes on our forehead to ask God to forgive us and to show that we are Christians. The kapa haka group did a haka and waiata to welcome the new families. I enjoyed this because we had a really fun priest.

Waitangi Work

Kia Ora,

On the 6th of Feb it was Waitangi Day, so in Rm7 we had to create a quiz about Waitangi Day and write about the History of a place that is special to us in NZ. I teamed up with Zara-Mao and Kiara. Here is a LINK to our work

I liked this task because it let me do what I love most research and design.

Here is another Link for My Special Place
